What's your story?
It's been more than 12 years since my last post. I wonder if anybody out there is still reading. Why did I stop writing? It's one of those things that you have no definite answer to. Laziness? I stopped venting my frustration in writing? Netflix? Korean dramas? Hahaha!
Life's like that. Nothing is quite as definite or exact like a multiple choice answer. Sometimes things come in a range. Like happiness, sometimes we feel happiness but somehow, lurking at the back of our minds, there's also worry, doubt or uncertainty. You must be wondering, where the hell is this post taking us? Frankly, it's not going anywhere, I am just restarting my engine with no destination in mind.
Over the past 12 years, many things have happened. I will need another 20-30 summarized stories to tell all of them. I've made new friends and some of these new friends have even left. Yet we go through life day after day, like we're waiting for something to happen or like we trying to get somewhere.
Thinking of this, I remember watching an audition on AGT, there was this girl, her stage name was Nightbirde. She was fighting cancer but she sang an original song penned by herself, it was absolutely beautiful. The song is called, `It's Okay' When the judges asked her how she fought for her life everyday, she said something that changed my views on life forever. She said, `You can't wait until life isn't hard anymore before you decide to be happy' What a beautiful line! We will miss you Nightbirde, RIP.
Maybe those movies, dramas and auditions aren't that bad afterall. These were all painstakingly written by people who have a lot of imagination. And we can certainly learn from these modern-day literature, if we know where to look. Many of these dramas and action-packed series are quite well-written. One of them is Sense 8. The idea and the concept of this whole series is mind-boggling. Some of the lines are quite good too. I remember, Lito was having problems with his boyfriend and his career. Then Wolfgang, our gangster in the group said to him, `Sometimes we make mistakes. You have two choices. Fix it or live with it!'
Another series which I particularly like is Ruyi Love in the Palace. It's like 87 episodes so I can't really summarize it in a few sentences. I will skip to the parts that really made an impression on me. Ruyi was wronged by the manipulative and evil Wei lady. Many people were murdered by her too. So Ruyi had to find a way to lure her out so that the injustice could be revealed to the emperor. When her maid told Ruyi, justice was finally served, Ruyi said, `But those people who have left, still cannot return' It was a stinging reality that sometimes, it's just too late. It's her regret for not being able to protect those people, for not uncovering the truth earlier, for not be able to save those who were wronged. In our lives, we must learn to appreciate and protect those around us, before it's too late.
I guess in life, it's not how much money we have in the bank, it's not how many fancy cars we own or how many houses or properties we have. When you reach a certain age, you wonder, how many people will remember you after you're gone. You cannot bring any of those material stuff with you and once a person is gone, none of those things matter. What matters is, how many people will remember how you've helped them? How many people have experienced your kindness? How many people benefitted from your generosity? How you have changed people's lives with your philosophies and thoughts? Now, that's the real legacy worth leaving behind.
